With a good cruising boat, you can find those "secret spots".

Offshore Islands

Channel Islands — There are several spots not mentioned here, but these are the ones I have surfed or learned about from other surfers. Santa Rosa Island-Johnson's Lee is a right point break with a fair anchorage in kelp at 33deg. 54.04 min N, 120 deg. 06.28 min W. A little rolly, but you'll live. Santa Cruz Island-Moore Meadows is a right that breaks on a small reef offshore. The break can be located under an array of radar towers high on the hillside. Anchor at Coches Prietas or Albert's. Santa Cruz Island-Yellowbanks is another right that breaks off a small point close to Smuggler's Cove. You anchor at Smuggler's or as close to the break as you want. This one can get busy because Smuggler's is a popular, easy anchorage.

Catalina — Santa Catalina Island-Shark Harbor is a beach break that requires some extra swell. Anchor at Little Harbor, then dinghy or walk over to Shark's. Don't worry about the sharks....but look out for the buffalo. There are more waves down the coast, but they are hard to reach by boat.

San Clemente — San Clemente Island-Secret Spot is located at 32deg. 48.81 min N, 118 deg. 25.93 min W. It's a left off a reef point. Anchor at China Cove on the south end of the island. Fishermen hang out and surf here.
