Santa Barbara and Ventura If you get a slip or anchor in Santa Barbara,
there is a right point break within walking distance of the harbor. Go to
the Santa Barbara Y.C. or the beach surrounding it and look west. There it
is.
Rincon can be surfed (crowded) by anchoring in the lee of
Rincon Point, 34 deg. 22.38 min. N, 119 deg. 28.31 min. W. Use this as a
day anchorage only. Surf, then get out. Breaks best in winter. A primo
quality wave when it's going off.
Ventura is a good beach break
with lefts and rights that can be fun but crowded. Get a slip at the
Ventura Yacht Club or wherever you can, then walk to the break, which is
in front of the Ventura Y.C..
Pt. Dume and Malibu Paradise, around the corner from Pt.
Dume, is an area with several breaks, some rights and fewer lefts. It
doesn't get too crowded because access is difficult from land. Anchor
close to the pier at 34 deg 01.08 min. N, 118 deg. 47.22 min. W, and
paddle to the peak of your choice or paddle to the beach and walk. Don't
anchor too close to the beach or the break....there are rocks!
Malibu is a world famous spot and gets crowded plus! But if you
want to surf here, you can anchor by the pier at 34 deg. 02.14 min N, 118
deg. 38.14 min. W. There are three peaks to choose from, and Malibu is a
classic place, so don't miss it.
Redondo Beach King Harbour has a nice little
beach break off the jetty. You can anchor beheind the breakwater for a few
days or get a slip at the public marina. From the slip, just walk over to
the jetty by the Chart House restaurant and paddle out. The King Harbor
Yacht Club is recommended.
